Police yesterday released the identity of one of the two gunmen who shot and killed two policemen along Veterans Avenue Extension last Saturday.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo identified the suspect as Benamar Asula y Mohammad alias Daks, 25, married, of Aljahara Village, Veterans Avenue Extension, Sta. Maria.

A police report disclosed that immediately after PO1 Dexter Guanzon and PO1 Gilbert Enriquez were shot and killed at Candies Store last Saturday night, investigators worked double time on the case until two witnesses surfaced last December 20. They executed sworn statements pointing to Asula as the man who was armed with an M16 rifle, while his unidentified companion was carrying a .45 caliber pistol during the gun attack.

The two witnesses told investigators that Asula and his companion left the store on foot then boarded a motorcycle that sped towards the interior part of Aljahara Village.

De Ocampo said that after getting the sworn statements of the the witnesses, the Tetuan police station under Supt. Albert Larubis forwarded to the City Prosecutor Office  a double murder case against the suspects under IS number NPS IX-06-INV-11L-00558.

The suspects will be arrested as soon as the court will issue the warrant of arrest.
