The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office has conferred the City Government’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) the 2011 Regional Best PESO Performer Award for the latter’s exemplary accomplishments during the year.

Mayor Celso Lobregat and PESO Manager and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francisco Barredo also received a citation as “Best PESO SPES Implementor” in recognition of their wholehearted and unwavering support to the promotion and delivery of the DOLE’s Employment programs. The recognition entitles both Mayor Lobregat and Barredo as nominee for the National Best PESO award.

The certificates were signed by Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz and were presented DOLE-9 Director Ponciano Ligutoom, in lieu of Mayor Lobregat and Barredo, during the 11th National PESO Congress held in Davao City, October 5. The awards were presented to Barredo during the year-end PESO/CGNET Assessment and Performance Accomplishments held December 19-20 at the Cecille’s Restaurant in Tumaga.

Meanwhile, the local PESO also received a certificate of recognition for contributing to the Skills Registry System (SRS) first wave accomplishments of Region 9 which garnered Proficiency Rating for high level of compliance to set procedures and quality of data.

Zamboanga City is one of the pilot cities in Region 9 to implement the SRS Project under the PESO programs. The project was aimed to register all skilled workers in the city for easy access of employers in their manpower requirements.

On the other hand, the Sea Based Anti-Trafficking Task Force (SBATT) led by Assistant City Prosecutor Darlene Pajarito and the Department of Justice conferred on Barredo the certificate of commendation in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments and efforts as anti-trafficking advocate and champion in assisting trafficking cases in Zamboanga City.

The certificate was signed by Justice Secretary Laila de Lima and Pajarito.

Along with Barredo, other CSWDO staff who received similar commendation were Social worker Esther Magtangob; PESO Coordinator Lourdes Francisco and social workers Zenaida Castro and Cristina Mananquil.

The awarding rite was done in Lantaka Hotel during the Christmas Party and recognition night for Anti-Trafficking advocates and Champions of Zamboanga City and Tawi-tawi province, December 12. — Sheila Covarrubias/City Hall PIO
