While many humanitarian gift-giving activities were diverted to typhoon-ravaged Iligan and Cagayan de Oro Cities, over 200 indigent residents of Barangay Lumayang also received last Saturday their Christmas presents from the owner of the Astoria Hotel group of companies in this city.

Reminiscing the past, Alfred Lim said he chose Lumayang for the sharing of his gifts as he was once a resident of the community.

“It was in 1941 whenI stayed and lived in this community. During that time there were very few people living here. We moved to the city proper in 1945. It is great to be back after 70 years,” Lim said.

At least six bundles of used clothing, food stuffs and mineral water were distributed to the women and children who were gathered at the barangay hall as early as 9 a.m.

The gifts were distributed with the assistance of Lumayang barangay officials led by Barangay Chairman Frederick Atilano.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Atilano thanked Lim for choosing Lumayang for the gift-giving.

Before the opening of classes, Lim also donated four cartons of notebooks, papers and pencils as well as foodstuffs to some 100 pupils of the Lumayang Elementary School. — NS
