Two children were killed, while another was hospitalized after soil mixed with rocks crashed on and buried them in a landslide along the shore of Ayala last Tuesday afternoon.

The fatalities were identified as John Rey Patongco y Arulla, 5, and Raymart Pantasan y German, 8, both residents of Calle Sto. Nino, Zone 7, Ayala.
Gian Carl Aquino y Perigo, 6, sustained injuries in the body and was confined in a hospital.

The incident took place around 4:30 p.m. when the three children were playing along the shore where a mound of soil and rocks on the high ground collapsed and buried them.

Helpful residents rushed to the site, extricated the three children from under the mound of soil and rocks and took them to the Ayala Lying-in Hospital. They were later transferred to the Zamboanga City Medical Center. Patongo and Pantasan were declared dead on arrival, while Aquino was admitted for medication.

The bodies of the two dead children were taken to their residences after post mortem examination.

Residents said the land mound eroded and collapsed due to incessant rain in the area that day. — Dan Toribio Jr.
