General Santos City is fasttracking development side by side with Davao City.    Among its latest development  is the construction of the fourth SM Mall along Santiago Boulevard, a walking distance from Robinson Department and Supermarket Store, KCC Mall and Gaisano  Mall in Barangay Lagao.

SM Mall has  two sites in Davao City: In Matina and in Bajada which is now under  construction. Another SM Mall is in Cagayan de Oro City near Lumbia Airport and a fourth one in General Santos City.

Soon to open in GenSan is the University of Santo Thomas extension in Barangay Katangawan with a land area of almost 40 hectares. Another development in that city is the soon-to-be construction of the Ayala Group of Companies in  Barangay  Espina with an  area of 40 hectares. Ayala Group of  Companies opened developments in Davao City last year.

GenSan is known around the world as one of the major suppliers of fresh tuna and canned tuna that find their way in Japan, US and Europe. The city, formerly knownas Dadiangas,  is located in South Cotabato which is eight-minute-travel by motorvehicles to the DOLE Philippines, a major producer of canned pineapples and other canned fruits.The city also is one of the major suppliers of corn for livestock production. Gensan is compact with Sarangani and South Cotabato provinces. Its tourists destinations include Kalsangi Golf Country Club located at the foot of  Mt. Matutum, Gumada white beach in  Glan, Sarangani, Olaer Natural Spring in Barangay New Society, Lourdes Natural Spring Resort in Polomolok near Dole Philippines, Isla Parilla Resort and Hotel  in Alabel and London Beach in Barangay Tambler. — Allen Abastillas
