The Department of Social Welfare and Development is celebrating its 61st anniversary the whole month of January, 2012, with the theme “Tuloy-Tuloy ang Kaunlaran”.

In region 9, the activities kicked off yesterday (January 6) with a first Friday inter-faith ecumenical service, which was immediately followed by the blessing of its newly-constructed 3rd floor located at the existing field office in Gen. Alvarez St., Zamboanga City.

An exhibit showcasing the products of the Self-Employment Assistance – Kaunlaran (SEA-K sustainable livelihood program) and those of the PWD clients from the DSWD’s Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center III was opened at the office grounds.

In the afternoon, an on-the-spot poster making contest and an essay-writing contest was held.

Other activities lined up by the office for the month include a tree planting at the AVRC III compound in Mampang on January 12; a Family Fun Walk dubbed “Caminada Contra Pobresa” on January 14; and an inter-office sports fest on January 18.

To cap off the month-long celebration is the launching of Paglaom, a book that presents the viewpoints of the beneficiaries of the DSWD’s “Tatsulo” poverty-alleviation programs, particularly Pantawid Pamilya, KALAHI-CIDSS and SEA-K, on January 25. Following the tradition of book launches, beneficiaries featured in the book will read excerpts themselves.

The evening of January 25 will be the DSWD Anniversary Awards Night. Employees who have contributed and performed outstandingly, as well as the many stakeholders who have been instrumental to the success of the programs’ implementations will be honored in this event. — DSWD-SMU/DIS
