District 2 Congressman Erbie A. Fabian, in his advocacy for education, distributed on Thursday last week cheques to registered scholars under the National Commission for Indigenous People (NCIP) .

The distribution was held at the Second District Congressional Office in Guiwan, this city.

Over 20 scholars from the college level were present as they each received allowances in the form of cheques especially allocated from the Representative’s Priority Development Assistance Fund. The scholars come from different indigenous tribes such as Badjao, Yakan and Sama. With the special assistance extended by the Congressman, the amount can be used for tuition and other school requirements and extra-curricular expenses. Some
of the scholars are registered under courses such as Engineering, Hotel and Restaurant Management and many more.

The scholars are under the care and management of the NCIP, and have been carefully selected and screened beforehand. Maintaining standards have to be observed, and the previous batch of NCIP scholars have already completed their studies and shared their success with their juniors.

With the assistance extended by local leaders, students of today will be inspired to strive for a better future.
