Former vice mayor Mannix Dalipe yesterday expressed elation that at long last the city government is going to install surveillance cameras in the city.

“I am really happy that Mayor Celso Lobregat has finally realized the importance of putting up the CCTV gadgets in strategic places of the city. This will
really help the police in crime investigation at the same time help deter criminality,” Dalipe emphasized.

According to Dalipe, the suggestion of setting up the surveillance equipment in the city has been proposed by him when he was still councilor.

However, he stressed, this was coldly appreciated by the present administration since the proposal came from the opposition like him.

“The mayor even thought the modern gadgets will not in any way help deter crime. So it fell on deaf ears. But now I commend the chief executive because at long last he is putting forward my recommendations on the last year of his term,” Dalipe said.

The former city official also said the surveillance equipment is one of the many proposals he made that the mayor took note as he finds it beneficial to the people.

“At least there is now a sense of urgency in the last year of his last term,” Dalipe pointed out. — NS
