14 arrested for cutting mangrove trees in Sacol isle PDF Print E-mail

Operatives of the Sacol Police Station under Chief Insp. Nonito Asdai arrested 14 persons who were caught cutting mangrove trees along the shore of Sacol Island last Tuesday morning.

Arrested were Hassan Amil, Mannan Amil, Sahak Arip, Naid Asaali, Sakeb Asaali, Kahal Andy, Jul Andag, Elma Andag, Kale Andag, Lukaya Andag, USman Andag, Radzma Sapalin, Sahilin Wahab and Halid Tali.

Recovered from their possession were 4,000 cut mangrove trees.  

A police report disclosed that the suspects have been engaging in the illegal cutting of mangrove trees to make charcoal and sell it as for their livelihood.
The suspects and the seized cut mangrove trees were turned over to the CENRO east.

Asdai said that aside from their campaign against all forms of criminality, they are also concentrating on the protection of mangroves in their area of responsibility. — Dan Toribio
