Eight houses were razed while two others were partially damaged in a fire that broke out at Ayer Village, Sta. Barbara yesterday morning.

The fire started at past 10 a.m. and was placed under control in less than an hour.

Affected residents pointed to the house of Edris Lim, a barangay councilman, as where the fire allegedly started.

Residents temporarily vacated their residences and brought out their valuables for fear that their houses will be affected.

Firefighters led by City Fire Marshal Sr. Supt. Dominador Zabala Jr, backed up by volunteers from Filipino Chinese Chamber Fire department were deployed in the area and successfully put the blaze under control.

Residents told newsmen that one of the occupants of Lim’s house was cooking at that time when later they saw flames coming out of the house and spreading away.

Estimated damage was P300,000. No one was hurt. — Dan Toribio Jr.
