People living at the cove (bucana) of Mariki fished out the body of an unidentified man floating in the water at the mangrove area yesterday.

Asani Jikiri, purok leader of Mariki, told newsmen that the body was discovered by a fisherman around 10:30 a.m.

The body was brought to the Mariki residential area and the matter was reported to the police. The victim sustained a bullet wound in the forehead.

Police described the victim as medium built, with fair complexion, wearing black t-shirt with sporting shorts.

Sta. Catalina barangay councilman Jimmy Villaflores was the only barangay official near the place who responded and he announced that the victim was
neither a resident of Mariki nor of Sta. Catalina as no on could recognize him.

Residents said the victim could have been killed at sea and his body was swept to Mariki by strong current.

They reckoned the body was discovered less than 12 hours after he was killed.

The body was brought to a funeral parlor for post mortem examination. —  Dan Toribio Jr.
