A habal-habal driver was shot and killed by his passenger who later took his motorcycle in Barangay Sta. Catalina last Wednesday night.

The fatality was identified as Loreto Clarin y Cortocena, 61, married, of Morning Breeze, Tugbungan. He sustained a bullet wound in the face and died on the spot.

Police said that Clarin picked a male passenger in Guiwan bus terminal and proceeded to Sta. Catalina. Around 8 p.m. residents heard a gunfire from a dimly lit part of the road. When they checked, they saw Clarin lying on the ground with blood.

Witnesses told the police that they saw Clarin driving his XRM motorcycle with a male backrider who was wearing black jacket and estimated about 25 to 30 years old. They stopped at a dark area in Sta. Catalina. Moments later, the backrider pulled out a .45 caliber pistol and shot Clarin at close range.

The gunman quickly left the place aboard the victim’s motorcycle.

Through the cooperation of some witnesses, police have come up with a cartographic sketch of the gunman. — Dan Toribio Jr.
