Pedicab driver, 70, dies in Sangali highway mishap Print

A 70-year-old pedicab driver died after he was accidentally hit by a government pick-up truck in Barangay Sangali last Friday morning.

SPO3 Miraham Baring, chief investigator of the Sangali Police Station, identified the fatality as Maximiano Alvarez, married.

Baring disclosed that the a pick-up truck belongs to the Department of Education in Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte and driven by Ronald Arsino.

A police report showed that the pick-up truck with passenger Dr. Merlyn Luza and some DepEd employees aboard was heading for the city proper when
Alvarez who was running ahead made a sudden left turn causing the truck to hit his pedicab at Sitio Daap, Sangali,

Arsino stopped the vehicle and rushed the victim to the Zamboanga City Medical Center for treatment.

Arsino surrendered to the police at the Central Police Station and later proceeded to the Sangali Police Station.

Alvarez was declared dead by physicians around 3:30 p.m. on the same day. —Dan Toribio Jr.
