Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar yesterday welcomed the decision of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to send augmentation forces to assist in the maintenance of peace and order in the province.

The move, Akbar said, shows that the PNP is very much concern in helping their comrades attain peace and tranquility in the province.

Akbar said the deployment of additional policemen will strengthen further the campaign against lawless elements since there will be sufficient number of peace keeping forces.

At least 100 policemen from MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Palawan, and Romblon) police command will be deployed to assist police and military forces in hunting down suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf bandits and other criminal syndicates operating in Basilan province.

Meanwhile, Akbar strongly called on Task Force ZamBas to relentlessly pursue the attackers who killed 15 fishermen last week in the fishing grounds of Sibago Island, Mohammad Ajul town.

Akbar said the attackers should not be left Scott-free stressing “they should be punished for the inhumane act they have done.”
