A carpenter was shot dead by a soldier after he tried to seize the latter’s M-16 rifle  along Hadji Jalil St., Barangay Maganda, Lamitan City yesterday morning.

Slain was Masuhud Bayhakki, 45, married.

Masuhud was shot after he grabbed the M-16 rifle of a soldier of the army’s 32nd Infantry Battalion.

He collapsed on the ground with a knife still in his right hand. The soldier claimed he shot Masuhud in self defense.

According to the family, Masuhud was suffering from mental illness after he came home from Sabah, Malaysia. — Richard Falcatan
