Mayor Celso Lobregat the other day challenged the 204 newly-promoted non-commissioned police officers (NCPOs) to do their part and be responsible law enforcers.

Mayor Lobregat administered the oath of the newly-promoted NCPOs en masse, Friday afternoon in ceremonies held at the Zamboanga City Police Office in the presence of City Police OIC Director Col. Edwin de Ocampo and other officers.

In his state of the City Report  (SCR) before the City Council last January 25, Mayor Lobregat said he talked lengthily about the peace and order situation and at the same time instructed the police to do everything they can to deter the commission of crimes in the city.

“With your new position also comes new salary but with your new position also comes bigger responsibilities and we hope that you will live up to this responsibility”, the mayor stressed.

He said the city the past months has been tried and tested with the numerous criminal incidents that happened.

“In my SCR I also told the Zamboanguenos that the police cannot do it alone. You need the support of the community, support of the force multipliers”, the mayor said adding “You also have to show that you are doing your part, that you are responsible policemen and policewomen”.

He said: “That is my challenge for all of you”, as he congratulated the newly promoted NCPOs.

Of the 204 NCPOs, 25 were promoted from SPO3 to SPO4; 38 were promoted from SPO2 to SPO3; 6 were promoted from SPO1 to SPO2; 14 were promoted from PO3 to SPO1; 47 were promoted from PO2 to PO3 and 74 were promoted from PO1 to PO2.  — Sheila Covarrubias
