Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo has reset his trip to Zamboanga City today to a later date, as his presence is urgently required in Malacañang due to some pressing issues.

Robredo was originally scheduled to fly to the city today to personally administer the oath of Mayor Celso Lobregat as chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in the Zamboanga Peninsula and later convene the group.

Robredo called up Mayor Lobregat late yesterday afternoon apologizing for the cancellation of his trip as he is required by President Aquino to be in Malacanang today for a meeting together with other officials concerning national issues.

Earlier, the secretary’s staff informed the mayor through a text message about the deferment of the trip. The secretary’s advance party has also arrived in the city yesterday morning.

Sec. Robredo’s other commitments in the city today are also cancelled and these include speaking engagements at the Mindanao Bridging Leadership Program organized by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) set to be held at the Lantaka Hotel at 8am and at the launching of World Interfaith Harmony Week organized by the National Ulama Conference of the Philippines-Zambasulta region set at the Astoria Hotel at 2pm.

Robredo was supposed to convene the RPOC at 10am  after swearing in Mayor Lobregat.

DILG Regional Director Faizal Abutazil personally saw Mayor Lobregat at City hall yesterday afternoon to also inform about the deferment of the secretary’s trip. He said the convening of the RPOC today would be at the mayor’s discretion.

Mayor Lobregat said the meeting will be held with Sec. Robredo anytime soon.

The secretary is expected to confirm his new schedule to visit Zamboanga with    Mayor Lobregat through a phone call today.

As this developed, the DILG regional office late yesterday afternoon communicated with members of the RPOC and other agencies concerned informing about the deferment of the meeting to a later date. — Sheila Covarrubias
