An overseas Filipino worker and a farmer were shot dead in separate gun attacks in Arena Blanco and Sacol island last Thursday.

Killed were Idris Jarah, 40, married, a construction worker who just arrived from Brunei, and Ismael Lao y Gapas, 42, married, a farmer of Sacol island.
Jarah was shot outside their in Arena Blanco last Thursday night. He sustained a gunshot wound in the forehead. The bullet exited at the back of the head. He died on the spot.

Initial investigation disclosed that Jarah had just finished praying in their house and went out to sit on a chair around 6:15 p.m. when a gunman shot him. His two children who were in a nearby store heard three gunshots.  They later saw their father with a bullet wound in the head lying on the ground.
Recovered at the crime scene were a spent shell of .45 caliber pistol.

Further Investigation disclosed that the gun attack took place while the barangay was experiencing power outage.

On the other hand, Lao was shot and killed at Sitio Belluh, Landang Laum, Sacol Island last Thursday afternoon. He was shot by Karim Saharim, 30, married, of Taluksangay.

Lao sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot.

Initial investigation disclosed that Lao was cutting bamboos around 1 p.m. when Saharim with a certain Aziz Saharim appeared and shot him at close range.

Police said the suspects sped away towards Taluksangay aboard a pumpboat after the incident.

The body was claimed by the victim’s relatives for burial services in Islam rites.

Police were looking into land dispute as the possible motive behind the killing. — Dan Toribio Jr.
