The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) will soon implement the construction of a travelers hub passenger terminal for foreign vessels making callat the Zamboanga City port.

PPA Zamboanga City Port Manager Leonilo E. Miole disclosed that the project is now in the process of bidding.

The construction of the passenger terminal for foreign travellers  is intended to separate them from the domestic passengers who are utilizing the  Terminal II.

Miole explained that the foreigners terminal is like a one -stop-shop because it will house some government offices to facilitate travelling documents.

Among the government agencies that will put up office at the foreigners terminal are: Bureau of Quarantine, Bureau of Immigration, Department of Foreign  Affairs and Customs International Quarantine Security.

Miole said the construction of the foreigners terminal and the establishment of the offices of  government agencies  is to facilitate transactions in the processing of papers.

Miole expressed optimism that with this new development,  there will be more foreign vessels to make call at the Zamboanga City port.

Meanwhile, Miole revealed that a total of 985,000 boat passengers were registered in the fourth quarter of 2011, as compared 1.07 million in the fourth quarter of 2010. Total domestic  cargoes entry at the port for the fourth quarter of 2011  reached 597,000 metric tons, as compared to 571,000 metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2010.

There were 3,616 domestic and 29 foreign vessels that have made call at the port in 2011 as compared 3,576 domestic and 33 foreign vessels in 2010. — Allen Abastillas
