Government forces clashed with pirates led by the Pingli brothers who are wanted by the law at Sitio Balete, Landang Laum, Sacol yesterday morning.

A sketchy report disclosed that policemen backed-up by soldiers of the Task Force Zamboanga swooped down on the said place after receiving a  report on the presence of the Pingli brothers at the mangroves.

An exchange of gunfire  took place for few minutes afterwhich the pirates fled.

It was learned that the government forces spotted four gunmen who were later identified as the Pingli brothers.

After the exchange of gunfire, lawmen recovered a small boat locally called “bote” with no engine. It is believed to belong to the Pingli brothers.

Police also recovered components of  improvised explosive device like wirings, 9 volt battery, ammonium nitrates filled in a 1.5 bottle of coke and blasting caps.

The Pingli brothers were tagged as behind several atrocities in the sea.
