Jose “Joey” De Venecia III, the whistle blower behind the NBN-ZTE scandal who is now the  secretary general of the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino (PDP Laban) graced yesterday the party’s  Basic Membership Seminar held at the Grand Astoria Hotel.

Some 200 barangay leaders, health workers, tanods and ordinary constituents from the different barangays attended the seminar.

De Venecia said the seminar was not a massive recruitment, but an activity intended to let the people familiarize and to introduce them to the  party.
As of 1 p.m. yesterday, 90 of those who attended the seminar filled up application forms indicating their interest to join PDP Laban.

The seminar was spearheaded by PDP Laban Zamboanga City chapter president Councilor Romel Agan, Councilor Melchor Sadain, Atty. Kim Elago, Atty. Susan Delos Reyes and other personalities.

Another similar PDP Laban seminar was held in this city last year.

The seminar was also part of the activities commemorating  the party’s 30th anniversary.

De Venecia said that among the political parties in the country, only PDP Laban and the Liberal Party require those who wanted to join the party to undergo basic membership seminar.

He however said that not all those who had attended their seminars in the past have become party members.

Meanwhile, De Venecia said the party is working in tandem with Vice President Jejomar Binay, a PDP Laban stalwart, as he goes around the country pushing the government’s housing program. — Dan Toribio Jr.
