Kagawad shot to death by extortionists PDF Print E-mail

A barangay councilman was shot dead by five suspected extortionists in Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay  last week.

The assailants figured in a shootout with policemen during a hot pursuit operation.

The fatality was identified as Pedro Recla, 52, married, a barangay councilman or kagawad of Timbabawan, Tungawan. He sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot. 

A police report disclosed that Recla was among of those in the list of persons targetted for extortion and recently he refused to give in to the so-called "revolutionary tax" demanded by an extortion group.

The extortionists went to their house and shot him several times.

After the shooting, police and military operatives went on a hot pursuit operation and figured in a shootout with the extortionists

The suspects withdrew towards the hinterland.

Police identified the suspects as Sarail Iyong, Muben Imbang, Mesain Sabdani, all of Ticpalay, Munib Banguih and Jomar Muben, both of Barangay Tigbanuang of the same municipality.
