The Department of Public Works and Highways District Office has moved to a new location from the Zamboanga City port area to the DPWH Regional Equipment Services in Barangay Divisoria.

DPWH District Engineer Merham Acas said that the old site of the DPWH district office at the port area was very important because of its strategic location and it has a sentimental value since it is the DPWH which constructed the wharf many decades ago.

However, the previous DPWH leadership, particularly when the wharf was constructed, was not able to work on a  land tittle to make the DPWH district office own the piece of property.

“We cannot do anything but follow the order of the DPWH central office to transfer to  the new site in Divisoria. We have also a Memorandum of Agreement with PPA that they should take good of the buildings and properties of the district office,” Acas said.

Acas explained that the reason of the transfer was due to an executive order declaring the area as Philippine Ports Authority  Zone.

He appealed to all clients of the DPWH district office to  conduct business  transactions or bring  their documents of transaction  at the new site in Divisoria. — Allen Abastillas
