The best practices and community programs of the city’s Gender and Development (GAD) took center stage during a meeting with Vilma Horca, manager of Development Academy of the Philippines, yesterday morning at City Hall Conference Room.

GAD Secretary Emy delos Reyes in the absence of GAD Chairperson Councilor Lilia Nuño made a powerpoint presentation on the best practices, activities and programs of GAD, to the delight and appreciation of Horca.

Bannering GAD’s best practices is its fight against breast cancer anchored on the most participated annual walk dubbed as Pink October Walk aimed at raising funds for breast cancer victims and increase awareness on the prevention of breast cancer, especially among women.

GAD is also actively engaged in the conduct of livelihood trainings and skills development programs for women in different barangays.

Likewise, the City Health Office represented by Dr. Carol Carabaña also presented its best practices in nutrition with the creation of thee City Nutrition Council and the award-winning campaign against HIV-AIDS and other health related activities.

The barangay food terminals, community backyard gardening and other agricultural livelihood trainings and activities were also presented to Horca by City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat.

Earlier on, city caretaker and Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. welcomed Horca and company to the city as he briefed them on the historical heritage, tourism potentials and other competitive advantages of the city.

Also present during the meeting were City Human Resource and Management Officer and GAD Officer Erlina Sanchez and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francisco Barredo together with their respective staff. — Vic Larato
