The Zamboanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry has lauded Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse M. Robredo for appointing Mayor Celso L. Lobregat as chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council in Zamboanga Peninsula.

ZCCIFI President Pocholo N. Soliven personally conveyed the business sector’s gratitude to the appointment of Mayor Lobregat as RPOC-9 Chairman.

Soliven said, the appointment of Lobregat is commendable, giving the RPOC-9chair a wider scope of influence to address the concern on the peace and order situation, which will include the neighboring provinces and cities in the peninsula.

“We also welcome the move of  RPOC-9 Chair Lobregat to a dialogue with ARMM OIC-Gov. Mujiv Hataman, to have a concerted effort in addressing the peace and order concerns in the city and the whole region which are all interrelated, hence the need to look at the situation on a macro level regionwide perspective to be able to understand the complexities and unique dynamics in our area of responsibility,” Soliven said.

Soliven led a group of concerned business leaders to show support and make a statement that more than ever, peace and order should be given paramount importance with a sense of urgency.

Among the prominent business leaders who were present during the private meeting with Sec. Robredo were Engr. Efren Wee of the Industrial Group of Zamboanga  Inc. (IGZI) and PhilExport, Edgar Lim of Shippers Association, Mau Bello of RITECC, Michael Lim of Sophil and Dr. Anton Lim of PPVR.

The group collectively appealed to the DILG Secretary to address immediately the inadequate logistical support like fuel, communications facilities, lack of manpower and ammunition to combat crimes and criminalities in the region, echoing the same appeal of the new RPOC-9 chairman.
