Heavy rains that lashed Zamboanga City starting at dawn and continued until early yesterday morning caused floods in various areas and forced some schools to suspend classes due to flooded campuses.

The heavy downpour started around 4 a.m. and stopped around 5 a.m. However it resumed around 7 a.m. triggering flood in low lying areas like Pilar St., going to Sta. Barbara, Gov. Lim Avenue,  Don Navarro, St., San Jose Gusu and flood prone Putik were also affected.

Classes were suspended at the Western MIndanao State University (WMSU), Zamboanga City High School Main and other public and private schools.

According to Pagasa, the rains were not caused by any storm, but just regular downpour caused by La Niña that has extended up to the onset of summer.

Barangays where many people live in riverbanks were alerted for possible evacuation if the rains would resume anytime.
