A fisherman engaging in illegal fishing was seriously injured after the dynamite he lighted to catch fish prematurely exploded in his hand off Bacungan, Limaong Island, last Wednesday afternoon.

Curuan Police Station Chief Inspector Ricardo Garcia identified the victim as Omal Antiviros Isnilon, 31, married, of Barangay Muti. He sustained multiple injuries in the different parts of his body and was rushed to  the Quiniput Medical Hospital for treatment.

Garcia said Isnilon was on fishing venture about 3 p.m. off Limaong Island when the incident happened.

Isnilon was lighting a dynamite and was about to lob iy on the water when it prematurely exploded in his hand.
The blast impact threw him off his banca.

Isnilon’s companions aboard other bancas rescued and brought him to the Quiniput Hospital for treatment. — Noning R. Antonio
