Some 100 people were rushed to the hospital for medical attention after suffering from nausea and breathing difficulty due to ammonia leak from an ice plant in Ayala Wednesday night.

A police report disclosed that the chemical leakage took place at the Leo Ice Plant Corp. around 10:15 p.m.

Two of the company employees and several people, including children and elders, suffered eye irritation and suffocation aside from nausea and breathing difficulty due to gas called ammonia mixed with air that emitted from a chemical tank.

Some 1,200 residing near the plant evacuated and later returned after the plant chemists cleaned the area.

Those who felt sick during the gas leak were taken to the different hospitals and were sent home after receiving medical attention.

DZT gathered that a hard object reportedly fell on a pipe connected to the chemical tank causing the leak with the ammonia spreading on the air.

Most of the victims said they felt pain in the eyes and experienced difficulty breathing after the chemical leak spread in their neighborhood.

Mayor Celso Lobregat personally went to the area right after the incident to check on the situation. — Dan Toribio Jr.
