Policemen rescued an eight-year-old boy who was held hostage by his own father, reportedly a  drug addict, at Purok 5, Recodo, this city last Friday.
A police report said the hostage drama started around 5 a.m. when Alnasher Jumli y Jailani, 34, seized his son Alhamdi and threatened to kill the boy inside their house.

The police organized a crisis committee to negotiate with Alnasher to release his son.

After realizing that Alnasher would not free the boy, policemen stormed the house and fired teargas at the hostage taker, making him release his son.
The boy was rescued and Alnasher was handcuffed and taken to the police station for detention. Recovered from his possession was a knife he used in threatening to kill his son.

The boy was taken to the hospital for check up.

It was not known why Alnasher held his son hostage, but investigators believed he may be high on shabu or was experiencing paranoia, one of the symptoms of prolonged use of methampetamine hydrochloride (shabu).
