House Deputy Speaker and District 1 Rep. Beng Climaco has issued the call for everyone to take extra caution during summer, the season when higher incidents of fire happen.

The congresswoman issued the fire prevention alert, as summer sets and in line with the nationwide observance of Fire Prevention Month.

The lady solon, whose ancestral home fell victim to fire last year, recounts the loss she experienced. “We are thankful that no one died”.

Cong. Climaco likewise appealed to concerned agencies to take active roles in initiating activities intended to promote fire prevention.

“I appeal to our fire bureau to take active roles in the promotion of fire prevention awareness in our city through schools, offices and the barangays,” she said.

She stressed that the rotational brownouts experienced by the city due to power supply shortage adds potential causes of fire when people would use candles.

All should be reminded of the responsibility of not leaving these candles unattended, she added.

At the start of the observance of fire prevention month last March 1, a fire incident was reported in Sta. Maria. —Marvin Segura
