Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar has strongly urged all Basileños to make this year’s anniversary theme as the roadmap to a New Basilan—one that is progressive, peaceful, just and fair.

Akbar made this call yesterday as Basilan province celebrated its 38th year anniversary with a theme: “SOLIDARITY, ROAD TO PEACE.”

“Let this year’s celebration be a reminder to all of us that no matter what has happened or will happen in the future, we shall remain one family, and Basilan, this beloved island, this great province, is our one home,” Akbar, speaking before the anniversary’s culmination program held in front of the provincial capitol, said.

The culmination program was preceded by more than three hours cultural parade which was participated by the provincial, city, and municipal officials and employees, the academe, non-government organizations (NGOs), civic-groups, police, military and the different line agencies of government.

Akbar said that solidarity “is the only road to peace” citing it could not be achieved if pursued alone “or divided amongst ourselves.”

“Peace will only be attained if we, as one family, walk the long and arduous road together,” Akbar added.

Meanwhile, Akbar has pledged to make this year’s anniversary theme as her guiding light in serving the Basileños as she enters the last year of her second term as the governor of Basilan province.
