Government security forces arrested two suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) during operations in Isabela City and Basilan .

104th Infantry Brigade commander Col. Ricardo Visaya identified the captured ASG members as Serham Akalon, alias “Uttoh Takas” and Anni Idris, alias “Anni” who were captured by members of the local police.

Visaya said Akalon was captured 5:30 a.m. Wednesday in Sitio Monpol, Barangay Libog, Sumisip, Basilan. Recovered from his possession was an M-16 automatic rifle, three magazines, and a hand grenade.

He said Akalon was nabbed in line with the military ongoing efforts to secure construction activities at the Basilan circumferential road.

Idris was nabbed by police in Isabela City Tuesday based on the warrant issued by Basilan Judge Leo Jay Princepe on charges of kidnapping with serious illegal detention in connection with the 2001 abduction of coconut farmers at the height of the Dos Palmas kidnapping.

Visaya said that Akalon is one of the 33 militants, including a Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) commander who bolted from Basilan Provincial Jail in 2010 after they were rescued by their comrades that raided the detention facility.
