An aspiring boxer carried the games torch last year and this year he will do the honors anew but with a new twist.

Marvin Brillantes Mabait, a year since then will again bear this year’s Zambolympics torch, do the honor lap and light the games’ flames in the opening ceremonies of the 2012 edition but this time as newly crowned Philippine Super Flyweight champion.

Fittingly he will do the honor’s lap to receive the cheers and the applause of a grateful city who he brought honors anew by becoming Zamboanga’s new pride as champion professional boxer in the country.

Mabait, a top prodigy of Blue Stallion Stable of 2nd District Rep. Erbie A. Fabian, won the super flyweight crown in his first attempt early this year by defeating champion Rey Perez via a unanimous decision in Caloocan City.

Marvin will do the honors on Sunday, March 18, 2012 during the opening ceremonies of the biggest sporting event this summer, Zambolympics 2012 at the Mayor Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Stadium in Baliwasan.

The opening rites will follow a parade of athletes from the city’s downtown area to the grandstand.

Heading the list of luminaries who will attend the games if former member of Congress, Mrs. Cynthia Villar, wife of Sen. Manuel Villar who will be main guest of honour and keynote speaker.

Zambolympics 2012 will feature 12 sporting events including the lead off cycling competitions a day earlier, the “Tour de Fabian.’

The games now on its sixth year of staging is being brought to the cityfolk through the courtesy of 2nd District Rep. Erbie A. Fabian.

Fabian, a noted sports patron is at the forefront of a grassroots program in the hope of developing new talents from Zamboanga City.

Mabait is making his first public appearance since being crowned Philippine Super Flyweight champion.
