A suspect in a shooting incident in Tugbungan last month, shot himself to death while he was about to be arrested by policemen in Talon-Talon last Sunday morning.

Police identified the fatality as Alexander Wico y Reymundo, 40, single, a laborer and a native of Manila.

Shirley Fernandez, 25, single, of Tugbungan, reported to the police on the presence of a suspicious person armed with a handgun.

Men of the Tetuan Police Station responded and rushed to Talon-Talon near the border with Tugbungan around 10:55 a.m.

However, when the police arrived, Wico and his live-in-partner Brenda Abuso hurriedly went inside his rented house and hid.

The lawmen surrounded the house and called on Wico to surrender.

Moments later,  a gunshot was heard from Wico’s house. Abuso emerged and told the police that her live-in-partner shot himself.

Wico was rushed to the hospital, but he expired while undergoing treatment of a bullet wound in the stomach.

Recovered from Wico’s possession was a .45 caliber pistol.

Investigation disclosed that Wico was tagged as the gunman who shot and killed Rodolfo Cariaga last February 15 at 11 p.m. in Barigon, Tugbungan. — Dan Toribio Jr.
