Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar has announced that the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) is allocating P200 million to energize all of the barangays in the province.

This came about after Akbar and officials of the National Power Corporation (Napocor), National Electrification Administration (NEA) and Basilan Electric Cooperative (Baselco) have recently met with OPAPP officials in Manila.

Akbar said that the allocation will be made through OPAPP’s Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) program.

PAMANA’s main strategy is to bring back government in target communities by ensuring that they benefit from improved delivery of basic social services and are served by responsive, transparent and accountable governments.

Akbar said all the 255 barangays in the entire province of Basilan will be energized once the project will be completed through OPAPP’s PAMANA program.

At present, Akbar disclosed that only 215 of the 255 barangays in the province, representing around 84 percent coverage, are energized.

It covers about 24,098 households representing about 39 percent of the province’ total household of 61,456, Akbar said.

Akbar is optimistic that the energization of all the barangays of the province will spur economic development that would redound to employment opportunities.
