All is set for the 2012 ARMMAA (Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Athletic Association)  meet to be held in the fastest growing town in Basilan Province — Lamitan City — on April 7-12.

As a matter of preparation, the Lamitan City government under the stewardship of its last term Mayor Roderick Furigay is now focusing on the improvement of its sports facilities.

At present, the improvement is halfway to completion which Furigay assured that everything will be finished before the scheduled date.

In order to fastrack the development of all the needed facilities, the amount of P3 million from the ARMM-Department of Education has been appropriated for the purpose and P2 million more from the Office of the Regional Governor Mujiv Hataman was added.

Furigay said the city government will shoulder the remaining expenses including the accommodation of more than 6, 000 officials and delegates coming from the different provinces of ARMM.

This is the second time that Lamitan City will host the ARMMAA meet. The first and successful one was in 2005 when Lamitan was then a municipality.

“We would like to thank Governor Hataman for helping us convince ARMMAA officials to bring the different sports event in our place this year. It is him (Hataman) who really worked hard in order to bring ARMMAA to Lamitan City,” Furigay said.

As scheduled, Gov. Hataman, he being the invited guest, will formally welcome the visitors and delegates in the opening of ARMMAA on April 7, 2012.

Furigay has assured visitors of full security as additional troops from the military and PNP are expected to be deployed in Lamitan City during the duration of the event. — Jimmy Villaflores
