Former Congresswoman Cynthia Villar will keynote the opening ceremonies of Zambolympics 2012 this Sunday March 18 at the Enriquez Sports Complex in Baliwasan.

Zambolympics 2012 is touted to be the biggest sporting event this summer here in Zamboanga City with 13 sporting events to be contested by over 100 participating teams.

The games, sponsored by the Office of 2nd District Rep. Erbie A. Fabian, is now on its 4th year and is aimed at developing new sporting talents from the grassroots.

Ms. Villar will be guest of honor and speaker while Kasangga Party List Rep. Teddy Haresco will also make a guest appearance during the opening rites scheduled at 1 pm.

A parade of athletes will precede the games opening to be followed by the raising of the Zambolympics banner and the colors of all participating teams.

Philippine Boxing champ and Blue Stallion stable mainstay Marvin Mabait will carry the games torch and will light the Zambolympics flames.

Ms. Villar served as congressional representative of the lone district of Las Pinas during the last congress.

She is sister to former Las Pinas Mayor Vergel and wife of Senator Manuel Villar, Nacionalista Party titular head where Rep. Fabian is affiliated.

A three-team field demonstration competition will be held during the opening program featuring teams from the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology, the Zamboanga City High School West and the Zamboanga City High School Main competing for the top plum.

Rep. Fabian, the main patron of the games, has invited other officials and guests and issued an open invitation to everyone to come and join the opening day rites this Sunday.

Admission is for free, the 2nd district solon announced.
