Soldier killed, 2 hurt in fresh Basilan clash PDF Print E-mail

An army soldier was killed while three others were wounded in a fresh clash with the Abu Sayyaf Group under Khair Mundos and Puruji Indama at Sitio Bohe Piyat, Barangay Baiwas, Sumisip, Basilan last Thursday morning.

A military report disclosed that troops from the 12th Scout Ranger Company of the 4th Scout Ranger Battalion and policemen encountered with an undetermined number of Abu Sayyaf guerrillas around 11 a.m.

The encounter happened as government forces were running after wanted persons who have pending warrant of arrest for kidnapping and murder.
Troops have received report that Barangay Baiwas is  where Mundos and Indama are hiding.

It was also reported that Barangay Baiwas is the place where Indama and Mundos manufacture improvised explosive devices used in bomb attacks.

Four on the government side were wounded and were airlifted to the Camp Navarro General Hospital for treatment. One of the three who was in critical condition and was evacuated to a private hospital but expired while on the way.

Troops were still in Baiwas and were running after Mundos and Indama as hot pursuit operations continued. — Dan Toribio Jr.
