Councilor Gerky Valesco encourages young Zamboangueños to take time to discover the beauty of Zamboanga by visiting eco-tourism sites and also to develop their talents in music and arts or go into sports.

“Zamboanga has many beautiful places to discover and enjoy such as Merloquet Falls, Santa Cruz island, Puerta Piedra in Bunguiao, Bog Lake, Zipline at Ecozone and many others. The outdoor adventure should be encouraged so children can take respite from computer and internet attention,” Valesco suggested.

Valesco said during regular days, children tend to spend longer period of time with computers, and to balance the enjoyment, children should also be encouraged to experience outdoor activities and journeys.

“Other than spending time with nature, those young people who are not so inclined with outdoor adventure can spend productive time by honing their talents and interests in arts, music, sports, and other disciplines that will help develop the character of the young people,” Valesco said.

Valesco, who is known for his advocacy in promoting eco-tourism and rural tourism said from the east coast to the west coast of the city, there are great adventure sites for the kids to have communion with nature. He cited the Victoria Adventure Park, the La Paz and Baluno trails, as well as the Lumayang site and other barrios with eco-tourism amenities. — Ram Arcillas
