Mayor Celso Lobregat celebrated his 64th birthday with his constituents yesterday wishing for more development, progress, peace and prosperity for Zamboanga City.

“I wish that peace, progress and prosperity in Zamboanga will continue”, the mayor                declared when asked to reveal his aspirations for the city of Zamboanga. He vowed to work harder and to do things right with a sense of urgency in accomplishing the things his administration has set out to do for the city.

The mayor’s birthday celebration yesterday kicked off with a bloodletting activity sponsored by the Zamboanga Red Cross Chapter at the City Health Office Conference room and diagnostic tests/ consultation at the City Hall lobby at 8am.

A mass followed at 10:30am at the La Vista del Mar Chapel. It was officiated by Archbishop Romulo Valles and attended by the members of the Lobregat family, close friends and relatives, department heads, City Council members, city government employees, national agency executives and representatives of different sectors and supporters including barangay officials. A fellowship lunch followed.

Mayor Lobregat thanked his well wishers and all those who took part in the different activities held in celebration of his birthday yesterday. Specifically, he thanked the members of his family—his children Looie and Marco and grandson Gabby and his siblings for their presence and for the support.

He likewise thanked the volunteers in the blood letting activity as well as all those who helped and facilitated the different activities for the celebration.

The mayor’s well wishers included people from the masses to the top officials of the country and even abroad. They all wished the mayor more years of dedicated and genuine service to the people of Zamboanga, as they extolled the chief executive’s brand of leadership and governance.

Spanish Ambassador Jorge Domecq expressed admiration to Mayor Lobregat’s efforts specifically in tourism promotion and in living up to the city’s new brand name as “Asia’s Latin City”. He committed to help facilitate and pave the way to further enhance bilateral relations between Zamboanga and Zaragozza, which are sister cities since June 30, 2008.

Principals, teachers, students and Department of Education officials praised and thanked the mayor his unceasing efforts to assist and support the education sector for the benefit of the young generation.

Barangay officials and constituents meanwhile, wished the mayor well and continued service to the people of Zamboanga stressing that Mayor Lobregat has ushered in a new era of public service through the massive infrastructure projects and accelerated basic services to the barangays.

Military and police officials likewise thanked the mayor for the all out support to the peace keeping efforts, as they vowed to reciprocate the good deeds done by the local government through Mayor Lobregat.

Capping the mayor’s birthday celebration last night was the soft opening of the Paseo del Mar musically gyrating fountain. — Sheila Covarrubias
