About 30 houses were gutted down in a fire that broke out in densely populated Rio Hondp yesterday afternoon.

Reports disclosed that the fire started at a house beside the residence of a barangay councilman shortly before 1 p.m.

Residents said the flames suddenly built up and spread quickly by wind to neighboring houses ,majority of which were made up of light materials.

Several firetrucks from the Central Fire Station and other units rushed to the scene to battle the flames and prevent it from destroying other houses.

Two houses owned by Kagawad Alibon Asakil and Barangay Chairman Rosdi Mukaram were among those razed in the conflagration.

Some residents claimed the fire was caused by the explosion of an LPG tank while the occupants were cooking their meal.

Residents fled their houses and brought their valuables to safe place for fear that the fire will also affect their dwelling places.

The fire was placed under control in less than an hour.

Fire investigators were still trying to  determine the real origin of the fire and the actual it caused.— Dan Toribio Jr.
