Mayor Celso Lobregat continues to intensify his campaign to promote Zamboanga stressing that it is the duty, obligation and responsibility of each and every constituent of the city to bring about the good, the best, the positive and the beautiful of Zamboanga.
In his keynote message before some 300 masons representing the different lodges in Mindanao Friday night, Mayor Lobregat cited the many competitive advantages of Zamboanga  and declared that he is fervent and passionate in his vision to continue growth, peace and development in Zamboanga City.
“To make or develop Zamboanga City what it should be in the years to come as we designed it today is a challenge not only for me as mayor of the city or the other leaders, not only for those in government and not only for those in the private sector. It is a challenge for each and every resident of the city to take and rise from the odds”, he said.
How this can be done, he emphasized is “for each and every resident of the city to promote the GOOD, the BEST, the POSITIVE and the BEAUTIFUL of Zamboanga City.”
“Let us not be like the prophets of doom who always talk about the negative, the bad and the ugly”, the mayor lamented.
Some 300 masons coming from different lodges all over Mindanao converged in Zamboanga Nov. 12-13, for the 17th Western Mindanao Multi-District Convention. No less than Deputy Grand Master Juanito Abergas of the Grand Lodge of the Philippines led the list of guests and participants.
Mayor Lobregat expressed gratitude to the Masons for holding the activity in Zamboanga saying that it grants Zamboanguenos the privilege to show to visitors what Zamboanga truly is and dispel misperceptions that people have of Mindanao and Zamboanga.
In support of this Masonic Convention, the chief executive issued executive order CL 368-2010, declaring the period from November 7 to 13 of this year as FREEMASONS WEEK in Zamboanga to afford every mason the opportunity to fittingly observe and join the convention.
The convention is a Masonic tradition that all masons look forward to and cherish as an auspicious forum to strengthen the brotherhood of masons and the fatherhood of God.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod has also passed Resolution No. 757 dated October 27, 2010, favorably endorsing the bservance of FREEMASONS WEEK  to help boost and promote not only the cause of masonry but also Zamboanga as Asia’s Latin City.
The five district lodges that participated in the convention were the Mount Apo Lodge No. 45 (the lead lodge), Bud Daho Lodge No. 102, J.S. Alano Lodge No. 137, Bud Bongao Lodge N0. 288 and Samboangan Lodge No. 310. The Masonic District R-IX-C hosted the event. -- Sheila Covarrubias
