The Philippine Air Force’s 3rd Air Division (3AD) based in Edwin Andrews Air Base (EAAB), Zamboanga City will be celebrating its 28th Founding Anniversary this coming March 29, 2012 with a theme, “Tagapagtanggol ng Kapayapaan at Kabalikat ng Mamamayan Tungo sa Mas Maunlad na Mindanao,” which highlights the key role of airmen as guardian of peace and aptly reflects their active partnership with civilian stakeholders towards a progressive Mindanao.

Various programs and activities were lined up as part of the pre anniversary activities aimed to benefit the people of Mindanao.

In the spirit of the AFP’s Bayanihan concept, the 3AD, led by its Commander, Maj. Gen. Jose Tony E. Villarete and all Tactical Operations Groups (TOGs) under its command, simultaneously held outreach programs in different regions of Mindanao, to include: Blood Letting Activities on February 11; Medical and Dental Civic Action Program (MEDCAP) on March 3; and a Feeding Program on March 4.

In response to the National Greening Program of the government, all units of the Division simultaneously conducted Tree Planting on March 23 in their respective AORs. Prior to this, personnel from 3AD Headquarters planted mangrove seedlings at Big Sta. Cruz Island to show its active involvement in the city’s environmental advocacies.

Also, a golf tournament last March 3 was organized to promote goodwill with the civilian community and members of the US Joint Special Operations Task Force Philippines (JSOTF-P) who are always supportive of the Division’s  various peace and development initiatives.

The 3rd Air Division, being a microcosm of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) in Mindanao, is responsible for planning, directing and employing air power in support of the AFP’s various campaigns. Since its inception on April 01, 1976, the Division plays a key role in maintaining a peaceful and secure environment, which would help ensure a sustainable development in Mindanao.

The ceremony will be held during this momentous celebration at EAAB Grandstand at 9 a.m. with the PAF Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Lauro Catalino G. De la Cruz as the guest of honor.

Adding significance to this celebration is a military ceremony which will be highlighted by a presentation of awards to outstanding military and civilian personnel, as well as special individuals and offices whom 3AD owes its plethora of accomplishment from April 1, 2011-March 29, 2012.
