Sr. Supt. Agustin Molina, chief of the 9th Maritime Mobile Group, disclosed yesterday that they are on red alert status for the Semana Santa (Holy Week) and summer vacation.

Molina sees heavy influx of passengers in ports in the region because people will be travelling to their hometowns to observe Holy Week and many students will go home for the summer vacation.

The 9th Maritime Group has established Police Assistance Centers in coordination with the different law enforcement units in the different ports in in the region.

Molina has ordered his men to double check all entries of passengers  and their baggages in every  port of operations.

He said the double check procedure is aimed to ensure that every vessel is safe for sailing.

“We are not only double checking the entries of passengers and baggages in the port terminals but also the entry of people because human traffickers may also take advantage of the heavy influx of passengers for the season. My command and all my men are on  ready  for action and combat human traffickers,” Molina said.

Operation Officer PO1 Randy Grageda disclosed that the area of jurisdiction of the 9th Maritime Mobile Group under Molina  is vast  considering that it covers the whole Region 9, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi and Polloc, Magunidanao. — Allen Abastillas
