Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday commended the efforts of the management of Nuevo Zamboanga College, Inc. (NZCI) in providing quality education to poor but deserving students as well as helping spur growth in the barangays.
The mayor said this, as he graced the inauguration and blessing of the new buildings of the Nuevo Zamboanga College Inc. in Pasobolong together with House Deputy Speaker for Mindanao and District I Representative Beng Climaco yesterday morning. The event by preceded by the baccalaureate mass for NZCI graduates.
“The establishment of NZCI defines the commitment and sincerity of the institution’s management and administration to offer affordable quality tertiary education for the youth, especially those coming from poor families in the city,” he said.
Like the NZCI, the city government under his administration is also committed to quality education “as we have initiated massive infrastructure program for the education sector that never before equaled, let alone surpassed by any administration”, the mayor said.
To this date, the city’s budget for education has reached more than P800 million for the construction of school buildings, stages, drainage systems, fence and several other related infrastructures in all public elementary and secondary schools.
“We do these and we will do more so every child in the city would get the best quality of education that he/she deserves. We do these and we will continue to do more to prepare our youth for the responsibilities that this sector will take on in the future,” Lobregat stressed.
Meanwhile, the chief executive thanked Crisanto dela Cruz, founder and president of NZCI, for donating to the city government a portion of his property in Pasobolong for the construction of a road-right-of-way and barangay hall.
“If landowners are like you, it would be easy for the city government to introduce development programs for the good and benefit of the people in the community,” Lobregat said of dela Cruz. — Vic Larato
