Zamboanga City Customs District Collector Abubakar M. Hamad yesterday revealed that his office has a  big x-ray machine capable of checking and determining the contents of containerized vans coming from foreign countries or domestic cargoes going out of the city.

Hamad said that the big x-ray machine is capable of examining 20 or 40 footer containerized vans.

“As of now most products going out or exported to other countries from the district are agricultural and seafoods, canned goods and plywoods,” Hamad said.

In another development, Hamad said that Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon is planning to introduce a new technology on how to trackdown the destination of every containerized van passing a district in the country before it reaches its receiver.

He said that Biazon is planning to introduce the Radio Frequency Identification for every containerized van passing a district office in the country so that it can easily track down or locate the transit cargoes and its destination in real time.

According to Hamad,  RID is now in practice and use by all nations particularly on importations. — Allen Abastillas
