Councilor Benjamin “Nonong” Guingona III, chairman of the City Council’s Committee of Ways and  Means, said yesterday that he will sponsor a resolution for the granting of assistance of funds  to water consumers in the east coast and west coast who can not afford to pay service fees and buy water gadgets for connection to the communal connection  that will be constructed by the Zamboanga City Water District.

Guingona explained that the funding will be taken from the Countrywide Development Funds (CDF) of councilors of both District 1 and 2.

He said he has received information from less fortunate people from the two districts that they need the help of the city  councilors for the water assistance project.

“I will hold a meeting with the members of the Committee about the proposed resolution and how much  percentage will be taken from the councilors’ countrywide development funds. I will also talk to Mayor Celso  Lobregat about this proposed resolution,” Guingona said.

He stressed that potable water is very important to the health of the people.

“Many people get sick due to unclean water sources. People in farflung areas get water from deep well and it is not safe for their health. Less fortunate  people who can not afford for water installation fee should be given consideration,” Guingona said.

Guingona added that he will also talk to ZCWD General Manager Chito Vasquez about his proposed resolution. —  Allen Abastillas
