Southern City Colleges holds its 66th Commencement Exercises today, April 3,  2012, at the Astoria Plaza, Grand Astoria Hotel with the theme: “Sustaining optimum wellness and employment through technopreneurship.”

There will be graduates from the different departments i.e. Business & Management, Computer Studies, Education & Liberal Arts, Engineering, Criminology, and Health Science.

The keynote speaker is Mr. Teddy M. Kahil, a registered social worker, who works as a Social Welfare Officer of the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

Kahil hails from Siasi, Sulu where he finished his elementary and high school education. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Nautical Engineering from the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology. He later pursued his Master’s in Social Work at the Western Mindanao State University.

Kahil is visually impaired. But despite his disability, he refused to be discouraged and has devoted his life to social work in order to help improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities. He is the founder of Vision Impaired Society Towards Advancement Inc., and is a member of several government and non-government organizations that help the poor and disabled. In 2010, Kahil received a National Award from the Department of Education as Outstanding Visually Impaired on community involvement - government service category, a fitting tribute to his tireless efforts to serve others.

All through the years, it has been the mission of Southern City Colleges to transform its students into intelligent, responsible, and compassionate leaders. And the school aims to develop socially responsible individuals who will make positive and meaningful contributions to society.
