2 Zambo orators champion, first runner up in nat’l tilt PDF Print E-mail

Two orators from Zamboanga City  won in the National Oratorical Contest sponsored by the VeteranFederation of the Philippines-Sons and Daughters Association, Inc (VFP-SDAI) last March 31,2012 at the Abadia Hall, Veterans Center, Taguig City.

Mia Carro D. Falcasantos, a Junior high school student of the Universidad de Zamboanga, was adjudged champion in the High School level. First runner up was NCR, while second runner up was from Leyte. She was trained by this writer.

Falcasantos is the eldest child of Architect Rodel Falcasantos, chief architect of the City Engineer’s Office, and Engr. Catherine De Leon-Falcasantos, a faculty member of the Western Mindanao State University.

Miss Falcasantos will be awarded by the president of the Republic of the Philippines, Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino during the ceremonial “Araw Ng Kagitingan” program at Mt. Samat, Bataan, on April, 9,2012.

Mean while, Freoebelle A. Cuevas, a Junior AB-English student of WMSU, bagged the first runner up title in the College level. The champion was the orator from Cagayan Capitol College, and the second runner up was from NCR. Miss Cuevas was trained by the seasoned speech writer and trainor, Dr. Expedito Titus H. Malbago, a faculty member of WMSU, who also assisted in the training of the high school orator.

Cuevas, who is presently taking up AB-English is the fourth child of DepEd Supervisor in Pagadian City, Dr. Belen A. Cuevas, and Mr. Frederick A. Cuevas. Miss Cuevas aspires to go to a Law school, in her dream to be a trial court lawyer. She also likes to be an educator like her mom.

The VFP-SDAI annual national oratorical contest is only one of the various activities held in commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan as a tribute to World War II Filipino veterans.
