Universidad de Zamboanga professor Elbert “Bong” Atilano Jr. has reiterated his call for all concerned not to use the death of university president Arturo “Archie” Eustaquio III for political mileage or to advance their political plans.

Atilano, who has been working under the late Eustaquio’s leadership at the UZ (formerly Zamboanga AE Colleges) for over 30 years now, said it is not improper for some individuals, mostly politicians or political wannabes to put the blame on government officials to the point of calling for their resignation, for the death of the university president.

What is primordial at the moment, he emphasized is for all people to unite and help solve the incident that led to the death of Mr. Eustaquio and the other victims of shooting incidents in the city.

He stressed that the Universidad de Zamboanga community and the Eustaquio family condemn in strongest possible terms the death of their beloved president “Sir Archie” and call for the immediate solution of the case.

The late Eustaquio has led the university with compassion, determination, commitment and dedication—virtues which he and the Universidad de Zamboanga community will forever remember, Atilano, speaking on his personal capacity (not as spokesman as published earlier), said.

He asserted that just like the Eustaquio family, the UZ community and himself want justice for the late president. — Sheila Covarrubias
